Match Report – U16s Division 1 vs MacDara

Bohs U16s made the trip to Carraroe on Monday evening to kick off their new season. Having lost the same fixture on opening day last year, Bohs were determined to make a strong start and settled into the game well.

It was Rian Phillips who opened the scoring in the 17th minute, reacting quickest to finish from close range and give Bohs a 1-0 lead.

The hosts responded strongly and, after a spell of pressure, drew level in the 31st minute with a well-placed header from a corner. Just five minutes later, MacDara’s direct play paid off again as they took the lead, but Bohs showed great character and new signing Anthony Joyce struck just before half-time to make it 2-2 at the break.

The second half was end-to-end with chances for both sides. MacDara saw one effort cleared off the line while Luke Kenny rattled the crossbar for Bohs. As the game ticked into added time, the drama really unfolded.

In the 82nd minute, MacDara broke on the counter and their pacey forward finished well to put the home side 3-2 up. But Bohs never gave in. In the 85th minute, up stepped Luke Kenny with a free kick from halfway, and in trademark fashion, he struck it sweetly over the goalkeeper to secure a thrilling 3-3 draw.

It was another fair and hard-fought contest with MacDara, and we wish them the very best for the season ahead.
