Bohs Complete Perfect League Campaign with Win in Athenry
Galway Bohs Under-12s rounded off a remarkable league campaign on Tuesday evening with victory away to Athenry, sealing an unbeaten season and a perfect 100% record in Division 4.
With tired legs still evident following Saturday’s semi-final win, Bohs made a slow start and found themselves under sustained pressure early on against an Athenry side chasing promotion. However, the Bohs defence—marshalled by Kelly, Feeney, Stapleton and Keane—stood firm, dealing well with everything thrown at them.
Despite being on the back foot, Bohs struck against the run of play when Andrew Gallagher produced a superb individual effort to give his side a 1-0 lead at the break.
The visitors emerged for the second half with renewed energy and quickly took control. A burst of goals from Gallagher, Burke and a Jason Keane penalty stretched the lead and effectively ended the contest.
Athenry were handed a lifeline with a penalty, but goalkeeper Kaylem Kelly pulled off an excellent save to preserve Bohs’ advantage. Bohs continued to press, and James Kelly added a moment of quality, cutting in from the left before curling a superb effort into the top corner—his 20th goal of an outstanding season.
Kyle Holland added another from close range before Athenry grabbed a late consolation from the penalty spot, a scoreline that was harsh on the home side to be fair.
The final whistle confirmed a flawless league campaign for Bohs, who finish with 14 wins from 14 games.
Attention now turns to the cup final this Sunday against Maree/Oranmore.
